The First Trimester in a Nutshell

Dear Stella Rose,

The first trimester seemed to go by very slow. Mama kept getting feelings of anxiety, just wanting to get out of the first trimester and in to the "safe zone." Mama was so afraid of losing you, and kept praying for those feelings to go away and for God to provide her peace in His plan. It made weeks 6 through 10 go by VERY slow. After week 10, the anxiety went away, and the last couple weeks of the first trimester went by fast.

It helped to come back at the 10 week appointment to hear you measuring right where you should be and see the ultrasound of you, the dancing peanut! You were so cute, it made mama and papa laugh and cry! The song that came to papa's head was "The Music Never Stopped" by the Grateful Dead. Papa will play it for you!

"Uncle Corey" asked papa if the song that came to his head was "The Freaks Come Out at Night" because papa spontaneously likes to break out in that song and dance to make friends laugh. Your papa is a funny man!

Mama and papa got to come back at 12 weeks and get more pictures of you! It was amazing to see your growth in just two short weeks!

Cravings, Symptoms and Such...

Mama's first trimester went extremely well. No crazy cravings or bad nausea. Mama only felt a little queasy when she would first arrive at work, but nothing a small snack couldn't handle! Mama was extremely tired all the time, though. Mama would get home after 6:00pm from work during the week, eat and fall asleep on the couch right at 7:00pm. Papa would wake mama up around 9:00 or 10:00 to head upstairs for bed for the night. Saturdays were pretty much an all day sleeping fest on the couch! The thing mama was hoping would finally balance out were her hormones so she wasn't so emotional about EVERYTHING!!

Mama's favorite foods during the first trimester and into the second trimester were:

Yoplait YoPlus Blackberry Pomegranate yogurt
Mama would usually eat one of these along with a banana, which would make any queasiness in the morning go away.

Healthy Choice Fresh Mixer - Ziti
Oh boy, did mama think she could eat this for EVERY meal of every day!

Campbell's Select Harvest - Mexican Style Chicken Tortilla
If mama wasn't eating the Ziti, then it was this!...yum!

Hidden Vally Ranch Dip mixed with Great Value Light Sour Cream.
Mama would eat this along with fresh baby carrots, broccoli and red peppers for her morning snack.

Great Value 2% Cottage Cheese
This was usually mama's late afternoon snack along with sliced tomatoes.

WATER, WATER AND MORE WATER...is what mama craved. Surprisingly, not drinking coffee every morning didn't affect mama at all, probably because mama drank so much water that it kept her from getting dehydrated.

Another surprise is that mama didn't crave any sweets...not even chocolate! Mama just craved healthy snacks to make sure you were getting the nutrients you needed.

It did make mama a little sad that two of her favorites (pizza and mexican) gave her heart burn so bad that mama couldn't eat either one during the first trimester...but that went away as soon as the second trimester came around!

Your Growth...compared to food
Mama didn't take any belly bump pictures because she wasn't really showing, yet. Mama and papa did get excited every week when your new size comparison to a fruit or vegetable would change on the What to Expect When You're Expecting iPhone app.

Here are weeks 4 through 13:

Fun, huh?

Overall, mama couldn't have asked for a better first trimester! You really took it easy on mama! Next is the exciting Second Trimester!!

Love,
Mama & Papa
