The Birth of the Wheelchair Ride

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

Dear Stella Rose,

While Dr. Kerlin was on vacation, she put in an order that mama could go on two wheelchair rides per day for an hour each!  She was also allowed to go to the antepartum support group on Wednesdays.  Mama didn't realize it started at 10:00am and she didn't get up early enough to eat breakfast and make it in time, so she decided just to wait to go the following week.

Grumpa and Lola took mama downstairs to the gift shops for her first wheelchair ride. They helped mama find something to give papa for Father's Day which was in a few days. Grumpa and Lola had to leave that evening, so it was the last day to buy a present without papa knowing it was for him. They found a cute mug that says, "My Heart Belongs to Daddy" on one side and "Daddy is Loved" on the other. Then they found a bunch of candy to fill it with, because papa LOVES candy!  Mama hid it in the closet in her room until Sunday.

Later that evening Nana, Papaw and Uncle Ben came to visit.  They all took mama on another wheelchair ride along with papa.  This time they went out on the sun deck.  It was about 7:00pm and gorgeous outside with a nice gentle breeze.  Mama felt like she was on a cruise ship because all she could see were the clouds above.  The only thing missing was a pool and the rocking of the ship!

Mama likes to sit in the sunny areas because the only sun she has been able to see all summer is out of her window.  At least she now has a good view and can sit on the couch while the sun is shining in.  It sure is nice to get outside, though!!

Love,
Mama & Papa
